1981/82 LTM NATIONAL PANTOMIME
THE PIRATE PRINCESS

The Story

Based on the true story of female pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Read who sailed the seas with the dread Captain John Rackham also known as Calico Jack.

When Rackham finds himself off the shore of Jamaica, he drops anchor and goes to meet "the natives". Thus, he finds himself in contact with a Jamaican con man Seaside Harry, who is the proprietor of a tavern, the local village head man, man of magic, who can always be counted on for an appropriate incantation to suit any occasion ... and he has several for pirates.

Rackham and his pirate band offer to trade with Seaside Harry and the villagers, offering them goods taken as plunder at sea ... imported foods, video sets and luxury items which the people crave

But Seaside Harry and his cronies are smarter than Rackham and Company, before you can say Salt Water, Rackham and the pirates who are lost in the trading are captured and taken into custody to be tried by the authorities. Rackham escapes and fom then on, appears all over the village in the disguse of a rather strange lady of quality....

Seaside Harry pursues hotly, but with no success. A trial is staged of thise pirates who are in custody... with Seaside Harry being both judge and prosecutor. He is aided by a hand-picked jury with one voice... "Hang dem."

In the midst of the trial, "the lady of quality" who has been discovered lurking in the court, is revealed to be Rackham. Before he can be dealt with a hurricane breaks out. Chaos results.... Rackham, Seaside and others are thrown into the sea where magic occurs... the earth-things are transformed into sea creatures in the court of the King of the Sea, he chides them for the unkind behaviour and the greed they exhibit towards wach other up there on land.

Rackham who has been transformed appropriately into a crab, agree s to mend his ways... Anne Bonny the younger pirate, who had fallen in love with a young sailor on the ship, who turns out to be the Prince od the Sea .. is assured of happiness ever after because she was one of the few in the Rackham crew who showed any signs of love and compassion for others.

The bad folk are made good and reurn to land for a happy ending.
