The Story

Combolo
In this telling of the "Combolo"/ "Columbus" story, one of his descendants has made his way back to the island, landing in a storm. His mission - to find descendants of the Arawaks and offer apologies for his ancestor’s actions. He meets up with the Jah-mek-yans, whose leader displays some bad contemporary values and attitudes. The search for the Arawaks continues, but they prove to be very elusive.

In time, however, the representatives of the three civilizations meet and Columbus, re-christened “Combolo” by the irreverent Jah-mek-yan leader, finds “adventure of a new and different kind.” It’s all in fun, of course, in the tradition of the Pantomime where we love to “tek liberty” with history.

The forerunner of "Combolo" was "Hail Columbus," the 1972 National Pantomime.
